About the Major Pentatonic
The major pentatonic is a five-note scale (R 2 4 7 9 — root, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th) with no half-steps, so every note sounds consonant over the chord. The C♯ major pentatonic is a staple of country, pop and melodic lead playing.
Practice tips
Anchor every shape to its root — the gold R markers — and learn the distance to the other tones. The same shape transposes to any root by sliding it along the neck.
Open the interactive trainer and tap every C♯ Major Pentatonic tone across all six strings until the shape is automatic.
